The following is the roadmap from the old wiki. Make sure important items are carried over then remove this stuff.


Future Goals

Activities

  • Record and post more presentations (with a microphone and screencasting in addition to audience-perspective video)
  • Add meeting telepresence functionality
  • Host more hack-a-thons/BoFs. Possible topics include:
  • Free Software Howtos (1st priority)

Publicity

  • Get on the TVs in GBJ
  • Put up a display case in Squires or the GLC
  • Talk in World Regions class about OSM day

Tangibles (Funding Source)

  • Stickers (Members/donations)
  • T-Shirts (For Members, Assigned to Paul)
  • Customized Ubuntu or Fedora CD (Shelved for the time being due to lack of a potential audience.)
  • Hardware (Budget Board)
    • Hokie Linux development tablet
    • Router with PXE capability for InstallFests

Infrastructure

General

  • Re-brand as "Linux and Unix Users Group at Virginia Tech" because of restrictions on names of registered student organizations
  • Code widget and script library (Hokie Passport balance, desktop alerts, automated VT-Wireless PKCS12 to PEM conversion, etc.)

IRC

  • Bot that automates tweeting to Twitter and identi.ca
  • Possibly run as changate between oftc and freenode if we transition to oftc -or-
  • Get ownership of #VTLUUG on Freenode (waiting on staff, this will take a while)

Website

  • Fix the WordPress theme for small displays like that of the n810
  • Create a blog planet, starting with this list.
  • Streamline information channels? (i.e. get rid of forum in

    favor of mailing list or better integrate list archives, calendar, etc.)

  • Get SSL

Server

  • SSH (Critical)
  • Apache (Dependency of Launchpad, a webserver is critical)
  • Launchpad Bug tracker (Tech demo)
  • Citadel Groupware (Main focus - Assigned to Ben Guzzardi)
  • Version control (Useful)

  • Our own hardware (assigned to Mitch)

Ideology and Activism

  • We would like to see students able to complete their studies under solely Unix or Linux.
  • The LUUG should encourage and help to coordinate members

    speaking with professors, advisors, deans, traditional media and the Internet about both difficulties and successes with *nix.
