The following is the roadmap from the old wiki. Make sure important items are carried over then remove this stuff.

Future Goals

Tangibles (Funding Source)

  • Hardware (Budget Board)
    • Hokie Linux development tablet
    • Router with PXE capability for InstallFests

Infrastructure

General

  • Re-brand as "Linux and Unix Users Group at Virginia Tech" because of restrictions on names of registered student organizations
  • Code widget and script library (Hokie Passport balance, desktop alerts, automated VT-Wireless PKCS12 to PEM conversion, etc.)

IRC

  • Bot that automates tweeting to Twitter and identi.ca
  • Possibly run as changate between oftc and freenode if we transition to oftc -or-
  • Get ownership of #VTLUUG on Freenode (waiting on staff, this will take a while)

Website

  • Fix the WordPress theme for small displays like that of the n810
  • Create a blog planet, starting with this list.
  • Streamline information channels? (i.e. get rid of forum in

favor of mailing list or better integrate list archives, calendar, etc.)

  • Get SSL

Server

  • SSH (Critical)
  • Apache (Dependency of Launchpad, a webserver is critical)
  • Launchpad Bug tracker (Tech demo)
  • Citadel Groupware (Main focus - Assigned to Ben Guzzardi)
  • Version control (Useful)
  • Migrated MediaWiki (Useful)
  • Migrated Blog (Useful)
  • distcc (Extra)
  • Our own hardware (assigned to Mitch)

Ideology and Activism

  • We would like to see students able to complete their studies under solely Unix or Linux.
  • The LUUG should encourage and help to coordinate members

speaking with professors, advisors, deans, traditional media and the Internet about both difficulties and successes with *nix.

Possible Upcoming Talks

  • OS X / iPhone OS (co-host with ACM, AWC)
  • Ben Titelbaum - ?
  • Cobham Analytic Solutions - The Internet
  • Qualcomm - ?
  • Godmar Back - Buffer Overflows, Kernel Exploits, and/or Return-Oriented Programming
