Image2math is an undergraduate research project that is part of the Assistive Technologies Lab group. The student research and faculty advising is done by individuals in the #REDIRECT Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science departments. The image2math initiative is part of the overall Assistive Technologies Research Initiative who's aim is to research and develop software (or possibly hardware in the future) to assist people with disabilities. The Assistive Technologies Lab is controlled by Bill Holbach (holbach@vt.edu) and Hal Brackett (brackett@vt.edu).  The gp:Image2Math project is aimed at building comprehensive software that can convert an image of a math equation into MathML which can be rendered by web browsers such as Firefox, or screen reading software such as MathPlayer. The project is still in alpha development by students who work as either Independent Research or voluntary.
