How to configure e-mail clients on Linux for VT Mail

Status of Virginia Tech Email

Virginia Tech currently runs a branded and presumably patched version of the Free Software Horde Application Framework's IMP for webmail. The email services have been slow to upgrade, with IMAP being offered only recently.

Alumni email services are being outsourced to Google. Student and faculty mail are scheduled to be moved beginning in fall 2011. The Computer Science department has already reacted to this possibility by moving people to their own, in-house, @cs.vt.edu addresses.
