The Department of Computer Science (CS@VT) is one of the 14 departments within the College of Engineering. The head of the department is Barbara Rider.

The Computer Science department has facilities split between the Corporate Research Center, McBryde Hall, and Torgersen Hall. The department's offices were located in Torgersen Hall until 2008, when the bottom floor of McBryde was renovated to include new offices for the department and a new undergraduate student lounge. Many departmental offices were also relocated to the Corporate Research Center at this time due to lack of on-campus space.
