Infrastructure:Gibson

Gibson is VTLUUG's HPC/GPU machine. It is configured such that it can act as a VM host and a Docker host, with the intention that it should be used for compute-heavy tasks.

Gibson is a Dell Precision t7910 tower, with:

  • dual 12-core Xeon(R) CPU E5-2690 v3 @ 2.60GHz, for a total of 48 threads
  • 16 DDR4 RAM sockets, of which 4x8GB are filled with 3200Mhz.
  • two 6-pin and two 8-pin PCIe power leads
  • two built-in NICs
  • four SATA(/SAS?) bays in HBA mode, presently with two 2TB drives in software (mdadm) RAID1
  • an Intel Arc a770, 16GB vRAM, 4x DisplayPort (uses one 6-pin and one 8-pin)
  • a Quadro K420, 2GB vRAM, 1x DisplayPort 1x DVI

It was purchased (sans GPUs) during the great spending spree of Fall '24.

The following are not in the machine, but are in the LUUG's possession and could be if you wanted to (and handled some power shenanigans):

  • an NVIDIA Tesla p100, 16GB vRAM (takes one 8-pin CPU lead, which you can buy an adapter for, taking two 8-pin PCIe leads)
  • some old AMD FirePro card, 2GB vRAM

/etc/os-release indicates that it is running 24.04.1 LTS (Noble Numbat).

It's sitting on the shelf right of our rack in WHIT's 7XX server closet.
