Existing Rules

• Use common sense and treat others as you wish to be treated. No flaming, trolling, or personal attacks; if you must, take it to PM please.
• Do not flood the channel; if it's more than 3 lines, please use a pastebin.
• #vtluug is for newcomers and experts alike. Please be helpful and friendly to everyone or don't say anything at all.
• Please do not announce /away in the channel (or change your status to indicate such).
• In the unlikely event that you are banned, do not attempt to evade your ban. Ban evasion will be dealt with strictly and will result in extension of your ban.

Proposed Rules

• Off topic conversation cannot distract from on topic talk.
  • Proposed: move non-linux/computing/food to #vtluug-social, but people will only idle in #vtluug-social if this is done
  • Define: distract - people are not always getting noticed when asking for help, but some people read the backlog to fix this.
  • Make a Wadsworth help module?

  • Not confined to #vtluug, other channels either don't deal with the problem or have a notice on their site telling people to
  • Voice does not indicate knowledge of linux or familiarity with other members
    • Solution: remove autovoicing?

    • Solution: Remove "ping people with voice by their names..." from topic and wiki
  • Keep #cs-lounge and #vtluug separate
  • Add irssi/weechat highlighting scripts to "help:" or "does anyone know"
  • Not an issue if people get drowned out, because we aren't a help channel
  • Add join message telling people to stay in the channel for a while before people are available to help them, also put this on wiki / website.
  • Add IRC tutorial to wiki (and maybe join message)

  • Tell people when they're being condescending (outside of channel), would like to control, but most cases are misunderstandings

• Nicks should be SFW; discriminatory language is prohibited.
  • Nicks are not channel specific, should not be enforcing things separate from what OFTC policy dictates
