An SD card is needed to boot the raspberry pi, this is currently the best one I could find that meets my needs and is confirmed to work. Reported to work with the raspberry pi as of Jan 2nd, 2013.

If you don't need the the space, there are plenty of smaller cheaper ones that are just as fast and also confirmed to work.
