Editing the VTLUUG Wiki
Everyone is invited to improve the VTLUUG Wiki through additions and edits. The wiki is powered by MediaWiki, the same code that Wikipedia runs on. For an introduction to editing MediaWiki pages, see Wikipedia's editing instructions. While this and other pages may list some guidelines and rules, if a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining the VTLUUG Wiki, ignore it.
Editing Suggestions
- Be bold -- This means "shoot first, ask questions later". If you want to add content, add content!
- Provide a tl;dr summary.
- Upload pretty screenshots in howto articles.
- Tackle large coverage expansion goals incrementally.
Conventions
- "at Virginia Tech" is an assumed suffix for every title. You can add a redirect if you'd like, but the shorter name should be the main article.
- In general, follow Wikipedia's naming conventions.
- Follow Carnegie Mellon's capitalization guidelines for university-related capitalization.
- Always Document excessively
Licensing
Please note that all contributions to the VTLUUG Wiki are considered to be released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license. Do not submit copyrighted work without permission. This includes copying and pasting Knowledgebase articles. Copying from appropriate copyleft sources such as Wikipedia with proper attribution is acceptable, but consider whether improving the original content and linking there via an interwiki or external link is more appropriate.
If you do not want your writing to undergo the merciless collaborative editing of a wiki or be redistributed at will, then do not submit your work to the VTLUUG Wiki.
Non-Standard Features
Currently, the VTLUUG Wiki has four plugins installed: Canonical Href, Cite, ReCAPTCHA and SlippyMap. See Special:Version for exact versions. Also, the interwiki links table has been tweaked. Currently, we support the interwiki links below. The $1
will be replaced with intended page name. See the source of this section by clicking the Edit
link to the right for several examples.
