The EL Migration Project is a 1 year project which will involve upgrading our infrastructure, which is entirely debian, to [[Enterprise Linux]]. VTLUUG has had issues with debian, including terrible defaults, upgrading packages overwrites configuration file without warning or means to intervene, inconsistency among packages, and init script issues. EL is a enterprise ready linux distribution that actually has a major company, RedHat, backing it. It doesn't have these problems.

== How will it work ==
Upgrading your entire infrastructure to a new distribution is not an easy task. We are currently in the planning phase. In a few weeks we will be releasing a downtime schedule for our upgrades. We hope to have our entire infrastructure unbroken in a year.
