'''Wood''' was the primary server of the [[VTLUUG]]. It was built in late 2010 with hardware
selected by the [[Infrastructure:Wood#Hardware Selection Task Force|Hardware Selection Task Force]]
and currently resides in the <s>[[gp:CVL|CVL]] in [[gp:Whittemore Hall|Whittemore Hall]]</s>
[[User:uncurlhalo|uncurlhalo's]] house. The name "wood" was given to the server based on the
fact that until March 5th, 2011, it had no case and rested on a piece of plywood instead.

Wood is not currently in service due to the [[CVL eviction]]. Wood also has a tendency to short
whenever someone touches the case, meaning it may stay out of service permanently. This is due,
in part, to the horrible mounting and positioning in the case; the motherboard is a full
17" square, thus the PSU is mounted to nothing in the front of the case, along with the hard drives
and CD drive.

The hardware is listed below, in info about the HSTF. To upgrade to a full 4 processors would
cost about as much as 2 [[Raspberry Pi]]s <ref>http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Third-Generation-Opteron-8354-OS8354WAL4BGD/dp/B008H4SSH8</ref>,
and upgrading the RAM to 32 GiB or so would cost just a little more than

[[user:echarlie|echarlie]] has set aside a 4U enclosure no longer in use by [[gp:WUVT|WUVT]] for use for wood. This enclosure has a better mounting layout, and *might* not cause
Wood to short. It also has a power button.

Beginning in 2008, some folks began to idle on <code>irc.freenode.net</code> in <code>#vtluug</code>. In fall 2009, there were generally a dozen LUUG members, alumni and associates on at any given time.

On February 28, 2012, the approximately 30 members in the channel made the decision to migrate to <code>irc.oftc.net</code> due to persistent stability issues with Freenode and some issues that some members had with the staff. By 2014, there were as many as 40 to 50 students and others in the channel. Currently, there are often 20 to 30 LUUG members and alumni idling in the channel.

You will be kicked for an in progress flood only. There are no other rules. If you don't like somebody, use <code>/ignore</code>.
